The U16 and U14 squads took part in the Herts County Youth Clubs Tournament at Stanborough School Welwyn Garden City recently. It was hoped they would win this tournament which would enable them to represent Hertfordshire in the regional league and subsequently to play in the National Club Finals.
Both squads did just that.
In the U16 section there was really no squad in Hertfordshire that could match this talented Turnford side. Their first match was against Asco and from the offset coach Carole Titmuss knew the whole squad were on form and it would take a very strong team to match their prowess . Turnford ran out winners 15:5. This boded well for the remainder of the tournament and their scores reflected their strength., winning all their matches. Hertford Hornets 15:5, St Albans 18:1, Abbey Flyers 19:3 and Hatfield 16:6.
Player of the tournament went to Scarlett Barnes for her near perfect shooting accuracy and Beth Hatherly for her excellent defensive skills. The other squad members were Lottie Morrison, Rebecca Suzan, Stephanie Lewis-Smith, Devon Rickets, Ellie Newman, Kate Green, Nina Pattison, Sophie Carter and Hayley Smith.
The U14 squad delivered an outstanding performance in the County round of the National Clubs Tournament. Facing eight Hertfordshire based teams they ran away with eight consecutive wins. Excellent defending and turnarounds from Chloe Piper , Phoebe Gillen, Georgina Anstee and Megan Pryde allowed only 28 goals scored against them in all the games and outstanding attacking skills and feeds from Aimee Hatley, Jade Kersey and Niamh Burns enabled shooters Luisa Newman, Becky Freestone and Georgina Fisher score an amazing 121 goals.
They beat St Albans 18 -1, Watford Prem 18-3, Abbey Flyers 14 -3 , Hatfield 13 -2, Hertford Hornets 14 - 5, Priory Panthers 16 - 3, Crosskeys 13 -6 and Asco 15 -5.
Players of the tournament were Aimee Hatley for outstanding skill and mid court play and Becky Freestone for sharp and consistent shooting
