On Tuesday 19th March, the county H5’s final was held at Wodson Park. 12 school teams from across the county met for the annual Herts school games competition. After a fantastic opening ceremony – they children, coaches and parents were egger to get the festival underway.
With the teams playing everyone in their pool, and having the chance to play different positions through out the day, it was clear to see that all everyone including the supporters and coaches were enjoying the festival and taking the competition very seriously. There were some closely contested games in both pools. Pool 1 winners Holly bush, just about held on to a 2-1 victory against pool 1 runners up St Andrews. Pool 2 boasted some high scoring teams with convincing wins of 12-0 and 9-0 from Sheredes and Gardenfields respectively. These dominant performances secured their advance from the pools to the semi finals.
Semi final 1 was between St Andrews and Sheredes. The game was close in the early stages, But Sheredes re-grouped at half time to see out the game 6-3. Booking their place in the final along with Sheredes were Gardenfields, beating Holly Bush in a closer contest - finishing 6-4.
The final was set up between Gardenfields and Sheredes who had come through the rounds together from pool 2. Nerves set in with both teams making mistakes, but also demonstrating flashes of brilliance that warranted them being in the final. Once they settled in to the game they came in at half time drawing. Eventually Sheredes from the A10 Partnership were the team to triumph in a 4-2 victory.
St Andrews narrowly missed out on 3rd place in the play off match, ending in a 3-4 to defeat to Holly Bush
My thanks go to the organisation committee for the Herts school games, Jayne Jarvis and Marcia Alcock of A10 partnership, All the schools who represented their districts, young leaders and umpires who supported the running of the even and the parent and school staff who supported the children leading up to and  during the event. A great day was had by all!!!
